As the internet is replete with advice and tips on good networking, far be it from me to rehash the old. Rather, let us cut to the chase, and down to how I see the efforts at networking being tried out by many in my profession. Predictably enough, success stories are few whilst the hurried misapplication of the principles enunciated on the web are numerous. When I say ‘few’ I do not mean that you do not accumulate a tidy collection of visiting cards, with whom you may exchange pleasantries afterwards, I mean that the purpose of networking is, more often than not, defeated. And thereby hangs a tale.
